SUPER CRUISE MAKES HANDS-FREE DRIVING POSSIBLE

SUPER CRUISE MAKES HANDS-FREE DRIVING POSSIBLE

Super Cruise was launched by Cadillac in 2017 and is the first true hands-free driving assistance technology for divided and compatible highways. With Super Cruise-enabled routes, drivers across the United States and Canada have driven approximately 10 million miles hands-free. This number will continue to grow as more routes are added and more vehicles are enabled with Super Cruise.

Here is what Super Cruise makes possible.

Luxury Driving

Three 2022 Cadillac models and one 2023 model are currently enabled with Super Cruise. 2022 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles include the Cadillac CT5, Cadillac CT4, and Cadillac Escalade (except the base Luxury model), as well as the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ.

Cadillac is not only known for its luxury appointments inside but also for its high-tech features under the hood and throughout the cabin. Super Cruise is the culmination of experience, expertise, dedication, and innovation.

Thousands of Kilometres of Hands-Free Highway Driving

There are three things that drivers can expect from the Super Cruise experience: hands-free highway driving, cutting-edge technology, and a simple interface. It is easy to enable Super Cruise and enjoy the ease and convenience of hands-free driving, even when changing lanes.

Super Cruise might be “hands-free,” but drivers still need to pay attention while driving and not use a hand-held device. Super Cruise requires a properly equipped vehicle, an active Super Cruise subscription, a working electrical system, cell reception, and a GPS signal in order to work.

Across Canada and the United States, Cadillac offers over 320,000 kilometres of divided and compatible highways.

New Features for 2022

Drivers of 2021 and 2022 Cadillac models equipped with Super Cruise will have more capabilities appear during the first quarter of 2022. These new capabilities include:

Trailering – Drivers will be able to trailer their camper, boat, trailer, and more while driving hands-free.

Automatic Lane Change – The Super Cruise-enabled vehicle will indicate when a lane change is optimal, will initiate the maneuver, and use turn signals as it is executed.

Enhanced Navigation Display – For vehicles equipped with the embedded Google Maps app, the in-vehicle navigation system will display, during route selection, Super Cruise-compatible roads and show routes available for hands-free driving.

These additional features will be available on new 2022 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles, as well as available as an over-the-air update to select model 2021, vehicle owners. This way, everyone can take full advantage of Super Cruise’s new enhancements.

Intuitive and Easy-to-Use System

Super Cruise is a hands-free driver-assistance technology feature that equipped Cadillac models can use on divided and compatible highways, meaning that they are separated from opposing traffic. Super Cruise works in concert with Adaptive Cruise Control, which controls acceleration and braking, and with Cadillac Connected Services, which uses real-time precise positioning, sensors, cameras, map data, and more to help detect every curve.

All Super Cruise-equipped vehicles include three years of Cadillac Connected Services connectivity to support the Super Cruise function. After that time, you must purchase a Connected Services plan to continue utilizing the Super Cruise feature.

When in use, Super Cruise makes long drives and commutes more convenient, more comfortable, and more tolerable. There are three simple steps to enabling Super Cruise during your drive:

Step 1: Turn on Adaptive Cruise Control – Adaptive cruise control must be on, the forward collision system must be set to “Alert and Brake,” and the teen driver feature must be turned off.

Step 2: Drive onto a divided and compatible highway – When the system detects a Super Cruise-enabled route, the Super Cruise symbol will illuminate in white on the instrument cluster.

Step 3: Press the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel – When both the symbol and the steering wheel light bar turn green, you may remove your hands from the steering wheel and enjoy hands-free driving. To turn off Super Cruise, simply press the brake pedal or the Super Cruise button.

Enhanced Navigation Display - For vehicles equipped with the embedded Google Maps app, the in-vehicle navigation system will display, during route selection, Super Cruise compatible roads and show routes available for hands-free driving.

To enable the newly offered Lane Change on Demand, you need to simply activate your turn signal and the system will look for an appropriate opening in the desired lane and let other vehicles know that a lane change is coming.

High-Tech Alert System

An important part of Super Cruise is consistently paying attention even when the system is enabled. Cadillac employs proprietary head tracking software to ensure that your eyes are on the road and alerts you when you need to pay better attention. The system will alert you three times:

The first alert will include the steering wheel light bar flashing green to return your attention to the road.

The second alert will include the steering wheel light bar flashing red and include either a beep or the Safety Alert Seat vibrating.

The third alert will be a voice prompt for you to take over steering immediately. If that does not happen, the vehicle will slow and eventually stop.

Look Ma, No Hands!

Super Cruise is a forward-thinking, innovative technology available on certain Cadillac models, allowing you to enjoy a more relaxed driving experience when used appropriately.
